This place is awesome! The food is fresh and healthy (minus the pastries, which you should eat regardless). Everything is fantastic -- I especially love the Reuben wrap and the sea salad sandwich. The peanut butter chocolate cake (which is made at an off-site vegan bakery along with all the other sweet goodies) is probably right up there with some of my favorite non-vegan cake... and lucky for me, the slices are HUGE. The kale chips are also great, and if you get your food to stay there are usually a few served along side your entree for free (the chips are a little pricey on their own and are not included free with food packed to go, however). The menu is fairly small, but you won't go wrong no matter what you choose. (Though it would be cool if they offered weekly specials to change it up.) The owner is also very friendly, and is completely fine with people hanging around to do some work here (free wifi!). All in all, Vge Cafe serves as the much needed delicious, healthy, and economical vegan/vegetarian eatery on the Main Line. You will not miss the meat. I wish they would open one up in Manayunk! ;)

Fantastic! I've never had a bad meal here. In fact, everything I've tried has been great. My favorite sandwiches are the seitan cheesesteak and the vegan burger (I usually get both as a wrap but the bread they use is good too). If you see the cream of kale soup on the menu, I highly recommend trying it. The small Caesar salad was a great side dish as well. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the price is right.

A serviceable vegan cheese burger. With of course, the mysterious vegan cheese. I spend a fair amount of time on the West Coast, so I'm familiar with the unlimited exceptional and wonderful potential of a vegan burger. This one doesn't quite hit the mark, but it filled me up on a night when I was getting real hungry. Comfortable interior, and pleasant earnest help. Very reasonable cost as well. I will go back.

Really enjoyed dinner here. The cream of kale soup was amazing! I think the cream base was made with potatoes. You would never know it was vegan. Also really enjoyed the the vegan soft serve ice cream. My wife had the roasted vegetable wrap which was stuffed with several tasty veg. Small place with fast and friendly service.

First, let me start of by saying that I'm not a vegan, but I try to incorporate a plant-based (vegan) diet as much as possible. When I arrived at Vge, it was lunchtime and the placing was alive. The service was nice and since it was my first time there, they took their time to answer my questions. Many items sparked my interest. I ordered the Vgesteak, which is a vegan equivalent of the cheese steak. The sandwich comes with kale chips. My sandwich was not bad. I really liked the vegan cheese and I found the multi-grain roll to be very good. They serve New Hope's natural sodas that have real cane sugar. I kept staring at the soft serve vegan ice cream. I decided to skip it this time, because I plan on coming back.

Probably keeping in mind the large local student population and the bevvy of Main Line moms with "so much to do", this place speaks of the slimmer and more health-conscious second cousin of Chipotle. It's a smart choice if you're in the Lower Merion area and are looking for something healthy, green, quick, and cheap. The place lacks some character but has got a warm vibe thanks to its manager (who also makes some very warm - and really darn good - vegan chili). Just make sure to park really, really close to the curb on Lancaster Avenue, drop a quarter in the meter, and fold in your side-view mirror. I know from experience, DUDE, if you know what I'm sayin.

I had been wanting to come here for a while after reading all the positive reviews. I ordered the tofu banh mi as a wrap and it was quite disappointing. It wasn't very flavorful and the cilantro dressing was very watery. I may come back to try something else on the menu, but overall I wasn't too impressed.

I have being here a few times and each time it gets a little better. Service is great and the owner is super friendly. I usually get the falafel. They have added gluten free pizza and its pretty good. Paid street parking but easy to find a spot. Big fan of their Kale chips.

We were near Vge today and even though we already had dinner plans decided to stop in and try it because we were so close. We ordered three different sandwiches that we hoped to have later today but they smelled so yummy, we ate them for a mid afternoon snack. I am glad we did. The Vgesteak was the best faux cheesesteak I have ever had, and the Banh Mi was ever so tasty. We also liked the BBQ Seitan but it came in third place after the first two sandwiches I mentioned. The food was prepared quickly and our server kindly said he hoped to see us return soon. He will. We also ordered the Peanut Butter Bom which we have eaten at several places since it is made by the most fabulous Vegan Treats and shipped all the way to our lovely area. This Peanut Butter bom was so fresh. I do not know when Vegan Treats delivers to Bryn Mawr, but Vge seems to be doing a better job than others in keeping their Vegan Treats fresh.

SOOOOO GOOD!! Man, the food here is the bomb and the service couldn't be better! Everything was so fresh and I was blown away by their desserts! My fiancé and I ordered a Vgë Burger, a Seitan Buffalo Wrap, kale chips, and a GIANT slice of delicious vegan chocolate mousse cake!! To die for! I am grateful that this place isn't too far from me as I can see myself becoming a regular. Thank you so much guys for all your hard work! You guys are the best!!

I had a veggie burger and some black bean soup. Both were quite tasty. With vegan fare, I often find that things can be a bit dry and bland. My burger definitely benefitted from a hummus spread and would have been less than great without it. Good change of pace option if you are looking to eat a bit lighter/healthier.

I love this place! The food is delicious (My favorite is the buffalo sandwich with tofu but everything is great!) and the owner and staff are so nice. They also serve Vegan Treats desserts and vegan soft serve!

This is my favorite vegetarian restaurant so far. Everything is vegan which is fine with me bc eating healthier than I normally do is an added plus. Even the sodas here are all natural organic. I had the ginger ale. OMG get it. Seriously. It is sweet and has bite and just is so delicious. I could've drank a gallon. I also got a burrito which was delicious. I could taste the freshness of the peppers sautéed inside. Then it was grilled pressed on all sides to perfection. The best part about this place is it's not expensive. Most vegan restaurants make you think only rich folk can be vegan. Not here. This place is for everyone. Do you body a favor and get here and eat the food. You'll smile while you're eating and digesting. Happy happy happy to have found this gem

I love vge! I've only had the sea salad on a gluten free wrap and the falafel. Both are excellent and I can't seem to branch out. It's well priced for the amount of food you get and the service is very nice.

Walked in after reading yelp reviews. Looks like a chain. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad one. Great service. Warm and welcoming employees. The BBQ seitan sandwich was delicious. My man had the steak over greens. He loved it. And then we got ice cream. It has soy so I couldn't eat it, but he thoroughly enjoyed it! Only negative was, our lunch was more than $20. We will be back!

Full disclosure: I'm not a vegetarian. And judging from my experience at Vge, I won't become one any time soon. I ordered the Strawberry Greens salad, which sounded fresh and yummy. The ingredients in the salad were fresh, but the real loser here was the salad dressing. I opted for the strawberry citrus dressing, which sounded light and refreshing. I was disappointed to see that it was a heavy and tasted exactly like yogurt and not salad dressing. In addition to the unappealing texture, the taste was cloyingly sweet. In my opinion, it made the salad inedible and I tossed it after a few bites. $7.50 poorly spent :(

Judging from my experience as a restaurant server, people are just crazy for Caesar Salad. After seeing how it was made at a certain chain restaurant over the years, I had to agree that it was indeed a Seizure Salad, which is how many of our customers pronounced it. But not at Vgë Café! I could not wait to get here to indulge in a Caesar Salad, which I once thought was lost forever to me. It was large, fresh, and much much healthier than any I'd had before, no anchovies either. Delicious croutons and dressing! I opted for the extra tofu for $1 more, which made it even better. Vgë Café is a casual classy lunch and early dinner spot in downtown Bryn Mawr, right across from Greene Street Consignments. Make sure you realize it is WEST Lancaster Avenue, after Villanova on the way into Center City. It has now been open five weeks and should become very successful. Oh, if only I had this in my town; it would be a weekly takeout joy. The menu shies away from mock meats, except for locally-made seitan. There is a better soda machine, no HFCS. The falafel is baked, not fried. Portions are big, and the prices are very reasonable. The owner was previously a finance guy who has worked at Chrissie Hynde's vegan restaurant in Akron. All of the plates and cups are compostable! My creamy kale soup, made from scratch as are all the soups, was delicious and went perfectly with the salad. I did not have enough time to try the Brazilian Coconut soup. My spouse loved his barbecue seitan sandwich which came on thick ww bread with roasted peppers and greens. Any sandwich can be made as a wrap. The burger is homemade lentil/flax, and next on my list is the black-eyed pea salad with roasted corn. Desserts are from Vegan Treats and another local baker. We split a lemon cupcake. Even at 2pm, there was a constant stream of customers. The space is well-designed, orange and green and bright, and would seem to welcome children. I was very grateful there was no tv, just big murals of vegetables overlooking the room. No hippie music either, but rather a cool array of GenX-demographic classics like Pretenders and Cure. I can also imagine this cafe low-lit with candles for an occasional evening speakeasy-style BYOB meal.

I love the concept of this place. The menu is 100% vegan. It's a healthier version of fast food, and all of the items are freshly made. So why only 3 stars? Well, I just didn't love the food. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't all that great either. I would like to get back here (even though it's in Bryn Mawr and I live in Center City) and try a few different items on the menu, including the soft-serve Ice Cream (vegan too!). Friendly staff, plenty of room to eat in, and for all you Main Liners, they deliver!

Being a vegetarian, there are fewer options to dine out. Vge cafe, is a fresh air around the main line area. They really have great vegan menu choices. But, I am not sure I would pay 7 bucks for a medium bowl of salad. What I liked most is, their choice of sodas. Ginger was my favorite. I would go back again, to try their burgers.

I know that if some blog somewhere wanted to find one of those yelp reviews that totally discounts this site and makes us all seem like we don't know what we are talking about, then this review is surely fuel for their fire. I realize that what I am about to say makes me sound like a total idiot. Just hang tight till the end and maybe you will understand. I stopped at Vge Cafe on a Monday afternoon and it was occupied by a few Main Line biddies getting their low cal munch on. I perused their small menu and flipped between the bahn mi and the grilled veggie sandwich. The bahn mi was going to be served on a whole wheat roll, so that deterred me since I didn't think it would go well. I ordered the grilled veggie from the super friendly staff and headed home after a quick wait. Upon getting home, I realized the grilled veggie had too much vegetable taste. See, I sound like and idiot. It was warmed spinach, peppers, mushrooms, and onions on a whole wheat roll, but nothing else. I may eat meat, but I mostly eat vegetarian fare and I know that vegetables don't have to be the scary threat your parents held over your head so you would be able to get dessert. I have had cauliflower that made my eyes roll into the back of my head and brussel sprouts that made my knees knock. Vegetables are so delicious and nutritious if you know how to highlight them. Unfortunately my sandwich was just mushy warm vegetables on a wheat roll. It made me sad really. There are such exciting things happening with vegetarian food in Philly and I wish we could get in on some of that in the burbs.

Great vegan place that non-vegetarians will like! You must try the banh mi hoagie! And the desserts are stunning too! Amazing they are vegan too. Good friendly service. And committed to composting and recycling and reusing, bravo.

Went here before a movie at the Bryn Mawr Movies. It is great that there is a vegetarian choice in the area, but this just was not tasty. The food had very little flavor. I will not return. The people are very nice...........Hopefully they will improve the food.

I really love this place! I've been about five or six times and plan to frequent it more often. Great, fast vegan food and its obvious that the restaurant actually values health, vegan ism, and environmental responsibility and isn't just around to be a part of the vegan 'trend'. I've had the mock tuna salad, which is a great cold sandwich, the vegan steak, which was pretty delicious, only slightly salty, the Veg Burger, which is nice and filling and full of flavor. My favorite is the Banh Mi. It's really amazing. My only complaint is the Kale chips-they are really salty and slightly burned. I would definitely love if they would make them by dehydrating the kale instead of baking!

I decided to try Vge because I love a good, guilt-free vegetarian meal. However, I almost walked out when I saw that everything on the menu was vegan. Up to this point, I had found vegan fare uninteresting and dissatisfying. I am glad I stayed. This was one of the most gratifying vegetarian meals I've ever had (and one of the least expensive, too). I tried the BBQ seitan and kale rice bowl. It was hearty in both flavor and texture and was served with a deliciously light, tahini-based sauce similar to Green Goddess. I poured it on and lapped it all up. I added the small house salad that was chock full of garden fresh veggies and served with Vge's yummy Caesar dressing (again, tahini-based). So creamy and with all the zing of the original! I didn't think it could get any better until I tried the super-moist carrot cake cupcake. Is this really vegan? That luscious "cream cheese" frosting could've fooled me. Vge uses completely biodegradable paper products and cutlery, so this is fast food you can feel good about in every way, including the price. My entree was $5 and change, my salad $4 and change, and my cupcake $2.50 (I've dropped $4 per cupcake in Center City). Spending less than $15 for a thoroughly satisfying three-course meal is practically unheard of these days. My recession-addled self will be back for more.

I think it's possible that my review will be tainted by the fact that Vge is soo much cheaper than anything you can get in the city (and street parking in Bryn Mawr was 30 minutes for a quarter...magic). Everything I tried was super tasty. I had the burger without cheese. The burger itself was really good, and it came on a multigrain bun (which I wasn't a HUGE fan of), with kale, tomato, and garlic mayo. The best part of the meal was the kale chips. They're very crispy and lightly salted, so they aaaalmost taste unhealthy...in the best possible way. I think my only complaint is that there weren't enough of them. Vge gets all organic products when it can and their plates and silverware are made out of biodegradable material. They also compost. So you can have a 100% guilt-free meal.

I'd give 10 stars if I could!! Absolutely love Vge! Fabulous food and service. I travel quite a distance to come here and it's worth every mile. My favorite is the Vge steak. DELICIOUS!!

My first time was delicious! I really love tofu so I ordered the Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich. It's served on a whole grain baguette. The bread alone made me a fan. For 7 bucks I assumed maybe the sandwich would come with something else, but it didnt. But this was a big sandwich. I barely finished it. It had roasted broccoli as a garnish. My friend had hummus which was really tangy. He also had a falafel. It was a tad dry but coupled with the hummus it was good. Next time I want the Mac and Cheese.

We ate our first meal there last night and plan to go again. We are not vegetarians (quite the opposite), but do not fear a meatless meal, like many of our carnivorous friends. I had the banh mi and my husband the burrito. Both were served with kale chips, which, at first, I thought were just garnish, but then realized that they were edible. And they were very tasty. I enjoyed my sandwich: the ingredients and the multi-grain roll were both very fresh. My husband chowed down his burrito with great delight. Afterwards, we tried the soft ice cream, which was quite good. I liked that they use bamboo plates and compostable cups. Also, the self-serve sodas were all made with cane sugar, not HFCS. Overall, a refreshing, affordable and tasty option for vegetarians and those who don't mind a meatless meal every once in a while.

The foods are beautifully prepared and very fresh. Outstanding food. Well worth seeking out Vge. Parking is tight, but I'm used to the country so most people probably won't even think there is tight parking. There is parking behind the building and on the streets. I had the Reuben on a multigrain roll with a large Caesar salad. Jan had the bahn mi and enjoyed it. Very light/ Portions are generous. We both will get another meal out of our lunch. I can't wait to go back. And if I figure out how to do it, I'll post a picture of the Reuben.

Tried this place when I was newly vegan and it was AMAZING!! Everything was delicious, and the menu had tons of options so I didn't feel intimidated. Really friendly staff as well. Seemed like a lot of the customers were regulars and really happy with the offerings.

The real 'fast food'. I was in an out in no time! Plenty of seating. Simple and delicious looking menu options. Friendly service. I enjoyed a delicious baked falafel and sparkling water by the window.

Vge Cafe is superb. I am not a vegan, or a vegetarian and I simply LOVE everything on the menu. My fiance and I come here a couple times a month, and have a few favorites. They have changed the menu slightly so you can get mostly everything as a sandwich, salad, or wrap. But do not worry - nothing is lost! A few of our favorites: Felafel with hummus BBQ Seitan Vegan "Tuna" Salad We love the natural soda's - and they have a low-calorie soda option too. Everything comes with kale chips!! The prices are reasonable. I've always felt full and happy when I leave. Simple and delicious. A veg/vegan paradise, and sure to please meat-lovers as well.

I am hard-pressed to give it more than three stars. Need more flava in it's food. The flavor is bland and like I said you need more of that in their sandwiches. Only eeason I gave it 3 stars was because of the freshness of the ingredients. Although I must say I wish the sandwiches bread was softer. Will try again and see if it goes any further

We stopped at Vge Cafe on a weekday afternoon on our way to run an errand at Villanova. Cafe is very accurate: this is definitely more of an a la carte ordering place or casual lunch stop then somewhere you want to go and sit down for dinner. You order and pay at the counter and then food is brought to your table. You can elect to get a fountain beverage or choose from a tea or juice they have on hand. They brand soda they have is not your standard Coke or Pepsi-- it is what I lovingly refer to as "Hippie Soda". It is from whatever the soda equivalent of a microbrewery is and is made with all natural this and that. All natural or not, I don't really do soda, but my partner does and was a big fan of the brand they carry. EVERYTHING on the menu is vegan and now having been vegan for eight months, I am used to having very few choices. Going to an establishment with so many options is awesome, now also causes some kind of paralysis in the decision-making lobe of my brain. I asked for recommendations and the guy at the counter recommended one of their standard sandwiches doctored up with vegan barbecue sauce and sauteed onions. I said, "Yes!" I don't know that these options are really spelled out on the menu, but I am always a proponent of asking for staff recommendations for precisely this reason. My partner ordered the cream of kale soup. Both of our meals were fresh tasting and quite yummy. We took some of their animal lover magazines from their magazine rack and hung out for a little bit after we ate, reading and chatting. Yes, the prices were more expensive than a usual sandwich joint--vegan food is expensive. If you're up for a casual and tasty vegan lunch, Vge Cafe would be a great place to stop in. For a more substantial meal or a fancier setting, seek another venue.

The food value has diminshed - it used to be amazing but now things are watery and burnt!! Being vegetarian, it's so hard to find good tasting food. I cannot tell you how amazing this place is. It tastes fresh and amazing every time. The falalfel sandwich is my favorite. Check this place out for awesome kale chips perfect everytime.

My son will never come with me to vegetarian restaurant again. I was excited when this place opened in town, and couldn't wait to try it, and finally dragged the fam in. What a disaster. The salad was good, and the kids liked the cupcakes - although $2.50 for what was nearly a mini cupcake is a little steep. I thought that the kids would go for the mac n cheese, but even I thought it was foul and completely inedible. I chose the falafel and wish I had read other reviews here first because, as reported, it is completely dry. The flavor was okay, though and was passable with the humms on it. The rice bowl it was served on was completely flavorless (do they have salt in this place?) and the veggies on it tasted either frozen or leftover from the previous day. I also ordered the cream of kale soup and, again, no flavor. Salt, people!!

Nice little vegetarian cafe. Tofu banh mi was substantial and very good with the cilantro lemongrass aioli. Bread was soft and fresh. Baked falafel salad was also a hit. They have an alternative brand soda fountain which was surprisingly good. Less sweet tasting than coke/pepsi products, and atypical flavors like orange-mango and ginger.

I am so happy that this cafe opened across from Greene Street because I can now get my veg fix and vintage accessories in one fell swoop. I stopped in to try the sandwich selection and decided on the vegan cheesesteak, which was comprised of seitan, mushrooms, peppers, and plenty of onions on a soft Le Bus roll. While I personally prefer Sarcone's or Conshy's rolls, the sandwich was very good and the vegan cheese surprisingly creamy. The seitan was juicy and I really liked the extra peppers and onions, which gave it a nice flavor boost. The muli-grain roll definitely added to the virtuosity. Service was very friendly and fast, and my coconut cupcake was fantastic. Be sure to try this place if you are in the area (and stop by Greene Street after too!).

This is a healthy and crazy delicious vegan restaurant! I have tried several items from the menu and have not been disappointed. My favorites are the Rueben and soft serve ice cream. There are also beautiful desserts in the case which I have yet to try. Finally, the soft drinks are micro-brew and well made. The ginger soda is perfectly spicy.

Was really hesitant to try this place because I'm not a vegetarian, but glad I did- the sandwiches are superb. I had the Vietnamese tofu sandwich and the whole grain bread was di-licious! The tofu was flavorful and I even loved the kale chips. I'd definitely go back.

After reading all the reviews, I figured I'd try it out. I ordered the Buffalo Seitan sandwich. The people were friendly and my sandwich was toasted. I wanted to try the peanut butter bomb but it was 4.50 a slice and not worth for me to eat alone. After carrying the sandwich out back to my place after a brisk 5 minute walk in freezing weather, I opened my sandwich with the foil still warm, to my relief. The sandwich: the flavor and the smell was a weird mix of barbeque and some curry spices. Like the kind of spices used to flavor falafel or lentil. I bit into it and didn't like it. The seitan meat reminded me of the rubbery soy meat at my college dining hall, except there was barbeque sauce and curry powder rubbed into it. The sauteed kale greens were meh, it reminded me of collard greens at a southern comfort food restaurant, except with curry spices. The strange curry spices just bothered me the most. I once had a pizza with curry-seasoned vegetables and it was the worst--Never try any combination of bread and dry curry seasoning--it just doesn't work (unless it's naan with creamy curry). I ended up eating the insides first (I was hungry!!) and ate the bread afterwards. I didn't think they went well together. My suggestion would be to pay the extra for vegan cheese. This sandwich just needs some kind of cheese or fat to be palatable. Or eat it over rice. I could stomach it, but I wouldn't pay nearly $8 for this sandwich!! I would've tried the Banh mi but I don't really like cilantro...Though the cilantro sauce looks tasty. Next time I might take a friend and try the soft serve. Fat free!

My first time was this past week and it was delicious! I am a big fan of baked tofu so I chose the Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich on this whole grain baguette. The bread alone was a winner. For $7 I thought maybe the sandwich would come with something else but this was a big sandwich. I barely finished it. It was garnished with roasted broccoli. I ordered my 8 month old some hummus which was super tangy. ( It was ok) . I also ordered falafel. It was baked and a little too dry but coupled with the hummus it was good and the baby loved it. I was tempted to get some dessert but I was way to full. I ordered some of their fountain soda and chose the ginger ale. It was perfectly sweetened. I really wanted to try the mac n;cheese which was vegan and GF. Next time. They had a Cream O' Kale soup that look intriguing. We are moving to the area so I look forward trying more later

When I heard that a new veggie restaurant was coming to Bryn Mawr, I was elated. And Vge has not disappointed me. With a variety of options (wraps, sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, and more), Vge is an excellent choice for any veg person. Both times I have been there, I have been surprised at how appropriately sizable the portions were. They were much larger than I anticipated for the prices. In other words, the prices are completely reasonable. I would suggest any veg person or veggie-friendly people head here, and with friends. The place is clean, delicious, and pretty quick in terms of food preparation.

The food was tasty. I got the buffalo seitan wrap and my boyfriend got the seitan cheese steak. We both enjoyed the food and my boyfriend who is not a fan of vegan cheese liked the mozzarella on his cheesesteak. We live in West Philly but I found this place on Yelp while we were at Idle Hands Brewery a week or two before and knew we had to stop in for lunch/dinner. We got there at 8 pm on a Friday night and we were the only customers. We only ordered wraps and nothing else. It was very quick and we had our food in less than 10 minutes. The kitchen/walk up ordering area are all in the same area like a Panera Bread and they make you food with in view. When we were served our meal we were informed by the man that the cafe was closing in 20 minutes. The only thing left for us to do was eat our sandwiches. We had already paid for our food and it's a bus your own table establishment so there was nothing more the employee needed to do for us. It doesn't take 20 minutes to eat a sandwich so I am not sure why this man though it was necessary to establish that we "only" had 20 minutes to eat a sandwich. A new group of customers came in and ordered as we leaving and I can only assume they made it very apparent that they were closing in 10 minutes while serving their food. This won't stop me from coming back to eat here or recommending it anyone but I do hope the owners say something to their employees about making comments such as that. It makes my business seem unwanted and as if we are inconveniencing the employees.

I had a small salad with veggies on top. The veggies were steamed and lacked any flavor, salt should have been added at least. I'm a vegetarian and I've eaten at vegan restaurants in the past and I would say this dish ranks very low on the list. I also tried the soy ice cream which was good but not made locally.

This was a pleasant surprise. It isnt "fast food" in the traditional sense, but more a restaurant without waiters. The food was freshly made, with real ingredients. Nothing came from a frozen pouch (that I saw). The food looked like it came from whole foods and sandwichs were filling. The deserts were great. I would def return!

I usually get the same thing when I come here, the Banh Mi or the Falafel Wrap both are superb. The daily soups are also very good and there is usually a decent selection of desserts. They also have soft serve ice cream.

Macaroni and cheese, soft serve ice cream, chocolate chip cookies... These are all things I thought I'd have to live without to successfully eliminate gluten and dairy from my diet. Then I discovered Vge, which has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Bryn Mawr. The prices are reasonable, there's free WiFi, and it's a comfortable place to sit, eat and relax for a little while. Even if you're a relentless carnivore like me, if you have even a slightly open mind, you should find something to enjoy here.

I'm here for business and I really wish I was here for longer so I could go to Vge again! I got the veggie burger and gazpacho. The veggie burger was delicious - I love that it didn't try to be fakey-meat, one of my pet peeves, and the veganaise and vegan cheese were both delicious. I think they had kale on it rather than lettuce, which made me love it more. The gazpacho drink wasn't what I expected - certainly not sweet, though I don't know how I connected sweet to gazpacho, but it was packed full of such yummy ingredients! The taste took some getting used to, but I certainly enjoyed it and would consider getting it again. Everything on the menu seemed tempting. And not only is the food vegan, but the time is taken to make sure the food is clean (in the non-processed sense) and cooked healthfully. Yum. I wish there was one in Pittsburgh.

Being vegetarian it's always hard to find something which is healthy apart from subway sandwich or Mexican food. This place is perfect for vegans and vegetarian. I am very picky for each place I buy my food with recent change in quality of food products. I can surely assure you this place won't disappoint you at all. Please go ahead and give it a try. My personal favorite is seitan sandwich in a wrap and kale chips. My husband likes there baked falafel and drinks. I strongly believe its worth to give it a try. Please visit so that we can encourage this place to open healthy chain in other areas

Seitan wraps are amazing. Pure cane sodas are as well. Can't wait to come back and try the rest io the menu :)

The choices are healthy and extremely diverse. This is a top-to-bottom healthy living restaurant, which are hard to come by. Not all menu choices are a lock so use your best instinct when ordering. Friendly owner has always been there to take my order.

I am so glad this place is here! Bryn Mawr certainly isn't on anyone's list of cuisine destinations, and being vegetarian or vegan can be hard if you're looking for places to eat - and not just in Bryn Mawr, but on the Main Line and in the Philadelphia suburbs in general. So, now there's a casual vegan place 5 minutes away from my house. And since I've been home for the winter holidays, I've already been there three times. The restaurant is bright, inviting, and very clean. The people there are always pretty friendly. So far, my sister and I have tried the veggie cheesesteak, BBQ Seitan, Bahn Mi, and the creamy kale soup. The sandwiches all come with kale chips, but not that many, so you're better off ordering a side of them. The kale chips are tasty, but I wish you got more bang for your buck because I could easily go through a lot. The first time I was there I had the BBQ Seitan on a whole wheat wrap. It was so delicious and it had caramelized onions and a hearty amount of sautéed kale. I did add a little ketchup for extra zest, but my sister had one the second time she was there and said she liked it the way it was. She had the Banh Mi and said it was really tasty, but that she wouldn't order it on the bread again, because while the bread was good, they cut it kind of thick and it's really filling. The veggie cheesesteak was also pretty good, kind of like the BBQ Seitan, but it also has some extra veggies: mushrooms and peppers. The use Daiya vegan cheese, which is okay, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the flavor. It added a nice creaminess to the cheesesteak, but I'd rather go without it. I had the creamy kale soup with the cheesesteak and it was very tasty and filling. I'm excited to try their chili and the falafal next time I'm in town. I haven't tried the desserts, which I heard are from a local baker, but they all look delicious. Also, I was delighted when I found out that they compost everything except the bottles and cans! The cups and silverware are made from corn. Vge doesn't fry anything, they don't use canned vegetables, and they're "organic when they can," which is good. And the bathrooms are really nice, which is a HUGE plus in my book.

This place is great. All vegan. I had the Vge burger as a rice bowl and cream of kale soup. Very tasty. The service is quick and friendly. I liked the fact that the disposable utensils were biodegradable instead of plastic. The decor is warm, but very casual. The food was excellent. Great portions, fresh tasting. I will definitely be back.

This place is great! I've been a vegan for almost a year and have been discouraged by the lack of healthy vegetarian restaurants in the area. I've been to Vgë 4 times now and every time has been better than the last. The falafel wrap is to die for, and the soups are always creamy (cashews are used instead of cream) and delicious. Even the kale chips are yummy! The owner has been here each time my boyfriend and I have come, and is always friendly, exuberant and helpful. If your looking for a quick, healthy meal in Bryn Mawr, Vgë is definitely the place to go!

There is no way I can give anything less...I have been here about 6 times in the last...10 days. I am a bit addicted and won't stop until I have tried everything on the menu. Everything is DELICIOUS here. I usually don't eat much meat anyways but Vge was the first time I tried "beef" and it is absolutely amazing. The bread is amazing and the desserts are amazing as well. Tofu cheesecake, vegan carrot cake, vegan cupcakes...I mean, YUM. The frosting is amazing and I don't like frosting. It's THAT good. But the food. The Vgesteak and the BBQ Seitan sandwiches are so so good. Honestly will say I now prefer vegan meat over the real thing. It's not heavy at all yet the flavors are there. Reminds me of mushrooms but way more flavorful. My favorite sandwich is the Banh mi. Tofu with the radishes and the cilantro aioli work harmoniously. Though heavy on the sauce, the sauce is so good that it doesn't even matter. Not too sweet, not salty. It's very refreshing and you just feel healthy. Falafel (baked NOT fried. Best part, I think) salad is delicious. Usually falafels upset my stomach because they are fried but these were perfect. Though a bit dense, they were really tasty and you could SEE what you were eating. Very hearty, filling salad with an amazing hummus and tahini dressing as well. Though I enjoyed the strawberry salad, I definitely prefer the falafel. Have not tried the soups yet but I am definitely going to try the ginger carrot one next time. They change everyday but I'm sure they are all amazing. Also the staff is so friendly and it is just a great environment to eat alone, with friends, family or co-workers. And plus, you get kale chips with your sandwich when you eat there. BIG plus.

From start to finish, my experience at Vge Cafe was stellar... The restaurant is clean, bright, and comfortable. The menu has a great selection of various vegan soups, salads, and sandwiches. The price point is very inexpensive considering the quality of the ingredients and the food. The service was prompt and timely. Now to the most important part: the food.... My dining companion and I shared a Creamy Cauliflower soup, Baked Falafel Salad, Cheesesteakless With Vge Sandwich, and Vge Burger Sandwich. All were delectable! It's hard to believe that nothing is fried because the baked falafel and vge burger were both moist with wonderful flavors and texture. We really loved all the items we ate. My (meat-eating) companion and I left the restaurant feeling full, satisfied, and thrilled to have found food that is extremely healthful and extremely delicious. We grabbed some cupcakes to-go and look forward to our next trip there!

Update: the Vge burger was much better than the banh mi, and things are getting better than ever, now with desserts, natural fountain sodas, and soups. Highly recommended.

This cafe has lots of different meal options and treats available. Desserts are imported from "Vegan Treats" of Bethlehem. Everything is vegan. There are many sandwiches and wraps to choose from as well as mac and cheese, soups, and soft serve ice cream. Many menu items have meat and cheese substitutes, so it's omnivore friendly. They have natural sodas and juices also. Service was very quick; the staff was pleasant and kept busy. Additionally, I'm impressed that Vgë's containers are compostable or recycleable and it is obvious they make an attempt to cut back on their waste by subtlely suggesting that customers take fewer napkins. This makes me feel more responsible by eating at an establishment that encourages conscientious consumerism. I'm very happy I discovered this place, and I will return if I'm in the area again! There's more menu items that I need to try.

One of those places where everything on the menu looks so good that you just start with the first one and work your way down on subsequent visits. Wish this was across the street from my work.

the food was unique, flavorful, and a refreshing change from the usual vegan cheesesteaks, pizza and such. even cupcake was delicious. only hesitation was a less-than-friendly staff, had an anonymous "chain restaurant" feel...

I stumbled into Vgë several months ago when looking for a spot for dinner near the Bryn Mawr Theatre...and I'm glad that I did. Nice, unpretentious spot for vegetarian cuisine. Bread from LeBus, desserts from some AH-MAZING bakery in Bethlehem, terrific Seiitan. The owner, Fernando Peralta, is a lovely soft-spoken gentleman, dedicated to both his food and customer service. So far I've had the BBQ Seitan, the Vgësteak, the Vgë Burger, the Banh Mi, and the now defunct strawberry, greens and walnut salad - and I loved them all. I really have a hard time making a selection. The carrot cake from Vegan Treats is, quite possibly, the best carrot cake I've had, bar none (okay, perhaps the Carrot Cake Man in West Philadelphia, now gone, was better). I wasn't nuts about the cupcake, but judging from others' comments, I may have just gotten one on a bad day. Oh, and before I sign off - the kale chips are wonderful too. Definitely check out Vgë Cafe if you're a vegetarian...and even if you're not!

Very cool place. They try to have everything organic whenever possible even down to the condiments! I got a salad with baked falafel and it was good. Got the burrito to go for dinner, but I already had a bite. yummy! Also vegan treats bakery desserts are the best! Next time, I want to try the soft serve. Friendly staff:)

My daughter is vegetarian, which fortunately steered us toward this gem of a restaurant. Food is diverse, imaginative, delicious and excellent. I could eat this every day. Decor is upscale coffee house, very friendly relaxed and responsive helpful staff. Midday weekday street parking was not an issue. Will definitely be back.

I ordered a baked falafel wrap to go and the service was quick and friendly! The wrap was heated up in a panini presser, which made the tortilla slightly crispy (the perfect texture). There was a little too much sauce for my taste as it covered up the taste of the falafel, but that can be easily changed next time I go back!

VGE has gotten even better because now they have VEGAN SOFT SERVE. You read that right. Soft serve for us vegans in the Philly burbs. The only way to improve upon it would be to have some toppings available. Dear Fernando, can we make vegan hot fudge and caramel happen? The best main dish on the menu for me is the homemade VGE burger, made from lentils with no oil. I usually get the burger on a wrap with cheese and roasted onions. My second favorite dish is the buffalo tofu sandwich. You can have many of their main dishes as either a sandwich, a wrap, or a salad, and you can request a gluten free wrap as well. If you aren't in an ice cream mood after your meal, but still want something sweet, there are a variety of baked goods in the fridge at the front from Vegan Treats. I occasionally indulge in a massive slice of the chocolate peanut butter bomb cake and leave the shop in a sugar coma.

I picked this place because my friend is a vegetarian and we were looking for some vegetarian options midway between where we both live. I'm not vegetarian but this was amazing food. The coconut mushroom soup was unlike anything I have ever tasted and I would have never thought of combining those flavors; it was so good I went back the following week just for the soup. I also had the falafel wrap; it was very good. The people who work there are great; my friend was so excited to find this place and they customized her order so she could try a few different things. I highly recommend this place to anyone, not just vegetarians.

This place was so delicious! I am a non-vegan lover of vegan food and was pleasantly surprised by the vgë burger made as a salad. I also tried the falafel over rice bowl and it was exceptionally good, but the burger was certainly better in my opinion! The vegan soft serve was a total letdown, sadly. I did not eat it. The gluten free brownie was AMAZING, as was the peanut butter/chocolate cake. I don't like cake usually, but this was perfect and moist. The gluten free mini cupcakes were great, too. Overall, an excellent and inexpensive place.

I've only been here once so far. I got the gluten free Mac and cheese. It kinda sucked! I mean it wasn't the worst Mac and cheese I've ever had, but you can deff taste the mustard they must use. I got it to go and half my noodles were white, uncovered by the "cheese". I think next time I'll try something else. The new Hope soda was good though.

Our nutritionist recommended this place in Bryn Mawr. It is nicely located near the local theater in Lancaster Avenue. Street parking so you will need luck and patience to find a spot that is close by... but if you are like me you will not mind the walk in town. My wife's veggie burger was really good. She said she would come back just for the burger. I had the falafel wrap and was not impressed. The falafels were bland. Perhaps another choice next time. Both orders were served with kale chips... A bit pricey for the place but OK. I would have given Vge 3 stars instead of 4 but I since my wife was pleased... that enough was worth the 4th star.

My husband had the Reuben which was pretty good. I had the bahn mi as a salad which was pretty underwhelming. I wish I had tried the falafel salad! Maybe that would have been better. I'm glad this place exists though. I liked their natural diet coke!!

This place is pretty great especially if you have dietary restrictions and/or allergies. In some of high school and college I ate by a strictly vegan diet. Whenever I had any type of craving for a certain taste or consistency, this was my go to. Parking is kind of a hassle--only street parking. Their juices are very unique if you like that kind of stuff. The falafel is delicious!

Vgë Café. I came here with a buddy, who immediately pointed out that the name evokes the female anatomy. Hey, catering to your market, I can understand that. He ate some seitan salad, and about an hour later, he starts farting the worst farts both of us have ever smelled. It was the kind where you cannot roll down the car windows fast enough. The kind where you have to stop the movie because you're laughing so hard and trying to move the air around. We're going to be joking about that night for quite a while. More practically, I think the price is high for what you get. The food is fine, but I'd rather go to Mom's Organic Market where I can get a whopper of a salad for about the same. The soft serve is tasty tasty.

  • Jessica P R.

They give you kale chips with any sandwich now. The gluten-free mac is not good, but pasta and cheese - without real pasta or real cheese - probably won't be tasty. Sandwiches are excellent, and service is friendly.

I wouldn't recommend the mac & cheese, but I love this place. I wish it was closer to my office

The bread they use is so bland and thick. I understand being healthy but why sacrifice taste? The cheese is never melted. The lentil patty is dry and lacking a juicy flavor that isn't hard to get. The brownie has a good flavor but takes the form of brownie batter as soon as it hits your tongue. I feel bad for them. It could seriously be SO much better.

"If you want places like this to survive, you have to keep coming." A gentleman said this to my wife and I one day while having lunch here. As you can see, I've been there a lot. I like it here. The service here is great. You always get a smile. The owner loves to talk with the customers, it's nice. The food. When it's good, It's really good. I hate to write this but sometimes it is a miss. I do love the roasted vges and the buffalo sandwich. The kale chips on the side is really nice. I'm still going to honor what the man said to me and keep going back.

Having a boyfriend with a car opens up a whole new world to me! On Friday night, on the way(ish) to Movie Tavern in Collegeville, we stopped at Vgë Café in Bryn Mawr. Not that I plan to leave Center City often, but I'm still totally stoked to find good vegan food in the burbs! Great service! We had a great conversation with a man working there, didn't get his name, but he was tall with an accent. He liked our tattoos. My cheesesteak was excellent, but my omnivore bf didn't love his Reuben (I liked it, but, to be fair, it really wasn't a Reuben...if you're ever in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area, Sublime has a vegan Reuben that is much more on point). We enjoyed the potato salad, but the mac & cheese really left a lot to be desired--the sauce was runny & a little too noochy, and the noodles were overcooked. (Positive spin: I'll be making baked vegan mac & cheese at home soon to prove to my bf that it can be done, & done well.) They have Vegan Treats desserts, so you KNOW they're yummy, but I may or may not have done a little dance of joy over the soft serve machine (pic uploaded b/c SQUEEE!). Of course I got the chocolate. Of course it was excellent. I would call this review 3.5 stars b/c of the meh Reuben & the horrifying mac & cheese. Rounded up for the cheesesteak & the soft serve. If you're ever in Bryn Mawr, definitely check it out.

Everything in my prior review holds true. I just want to add that they are great for catering. In January 2013 my wife and I wanted to have a few friends over. About ten people total. We ordered a bunch of their salads as wraps cut in half as the owner suggested they would keep better that way. Between the party and the leftovers I enjoyed the Tofu Bahn Mi (Cilantro fans rejoice!), the BBQ seitan and the sea salad which is like the chickpea "tuna" salad at Blackbird. All of them were wonderful. We also ordered cupcakes. Chocolate-chocolate (my personal favorite), chocolate peanut butter, coconut and carrot cake. Again, all winners. Our non-vegan guests really liked them and remarked that they did not believe they were vegan. I would enthusiastically them for catering and for anytime you are in the area for a delicious meal.

I've eaten here a few times and love it! The kale chips are incredible and the Reuben is a favorite with the Buffalo seitan and "tuna salad" tied for second. Never tried the ice cream although i really want to but i did have the brownie cheesecake and about died it was so good!

For a simple green salad with roasted vegetables it was amazing how terrible it tasted. I don't know what was done to make it taste this way but it was that not a flavor I had ever encountered before in my life! Disgusting! I've eaten a lot of delicious vegan food in my life but this was not it! The Reuben was tasteless. Customer service. My email receipt was accompanied by a questionaire and an immediate reimbursement for the meal.

The owner and workers of this place are super awesome and friendly. The dessert selection is awesome. The bang mi wrap is great. The kale soup should ALWAYS be on the menu. The mushroom soup as well. Their grilled cheese is really not good at all. There is no butter (Earth Balance) put on the bread and the bread is wheat which isn't that good for making grilled cheeses. They should step it up and use sour dough and butter both sides of the bread and give like a nice tasty dipping marinara. The pizza is awful. Squash, zucchini, and kale are great-- just not on pizza. Also when they make the pizza they put the cheese on last which is not a good decision in my opinion. Potato salad is great! The soft serve is awesome!

Amazing. I'd eat here every day if I could. If you want to go gluten free, I suggest the sea salad on a gluten free wrap with vegan cheese. The flavor is somewhere between chicken and tun salad topped with fresh veggies. I love their allergy chart that coinsides with their menu so you can pick the perfect meal for your body. Thier soups are incredible, in fact, their creamy mushroom soup ( I forget the exact name) is the best my girlfriend and I have ever had. Very friendly, informative staff, super clean bathrooms and restaurant. Every single element of the place is well thought out with care. Even the music is decent. Every time I eat here, I feel really great afterwards like I did my body a favor. And to think, most of the time, I've had at least a side of mac-n-cheese. Guilt-free eating that make you feel great.

I would have really liked to give a 3.5 star review instead of 4 stars, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I decided to give them a try after passing their storefront on various occasions over the past couple months. At first I didn't think it would be that impressive, however, as time went on and "5 star" reviews began to gather I felt differently. With all the rave about the bahn mi and peanut butter bomb dessert I felt I would give that a try first. The bahn mi was so-so... I wasn't impressed, but it was edible. The peanut butter bomb was delicious though (I can only imagine how much sugar had to have been added...). I don't think I would go back for lunch unless I was really desperate for something local and convenient, but I would go back for frozen yogurt or something sweet. Kudos: All their silverware, plates, and cups were biodegradable. The restaurant was very clean. The staff was friendly. Menu is fairly priced and has a wide variety of options. Overall, I hope they stick around. Side Note: LOVE the kale chips!

Great casual vegan for vegan and nonvegan alike. Reasonable prices. Clean. Good service. Nice location. Note that the local cops will ticket you. Parked at 635pm at a meter requiring money until 7pm. Got a $20 ticket. Don't make the same mistake I did. Otherwise a great meal and pleasant evening.

If this cafe had existed while I was in college, I might've been vegan sooner! It's a cute, clean cafe on Rt 30 with a small menu and lots of goodies from my favorite place on earth, Vegan Treats. I opted for a Banh Mi in a bowl and a slice of White Chocolate Raspberry cheesecake to take home. The Banh Mi rice bowl was fresh and healthy, just what I needed that day, but fell short of the flavors I expect when eating a Banh Mi. I added a LOT of sriracha to get it to a super tasty place. The cheesecake, of course, was phenomenal. I love that there's a great vegan option readily available to the kids at my alma mater. I super love that I have a way to get my Vegan Treats fix within 30 minutes of my parents' house.

Best Vegan food ever!! The "cheese steak" is out of this world and the bread it hearty and yummy too! It's rare to have a sandwich served on a hearty bread, so thank you! I also recommend the desserts! They get them special and they all are yummy. My mother who is not vegan tried the vegan peanut butter cake and preferred it over other non-vegan cakes she's eaten before. The people are so friendly, the place is kept neat and tidy, and the place has a relaxed scene. I recommend to all vegans and non vegans alike! :)

I brought my vegan friend here in May. She loved it so much, we came back again in August. And we all continued to love it, even my steak-loving boyfriend. Seitan cheesesteaks, veggie reubens, kale chips, out of this world peanut butter chocolate pie, some cheesecake with BROWNIES ON TOP, even vegan soft serve. There was nothing we ordered that we didn't polish off immediately. Another plus is the awesome owner who actually remembered us (well, mostly my vegan friend) from the first time we came! We will definitely be back for more - I'm gearing up to try the buffalo chicken sandwich next!
